The blue flame heater in action. We don't add anything in the oil it's straight waste engine oil.

Waste oil heater

Updated 19th May 2025

Winter in New Zealand this year is not expected to be colder than normal. In fact, the NIWA predicts a more likely scenario of near-average or above-average temperatures for much of the country. While some areas may experience cooler-than-usual periods, overall, a colder-than-average winter is not anticipated.

However it's getting colder as we near winter, we have the fire going most days now especially in the evening when the temperatures start to drop, so now would be a great time together in touch regarding you new blue flame waste oil heater to warm the workshop up, or the house.

Interesting fact: I put into google if the emission from a blue flame waste oil heater were less than a wood fire.

Yes, emissions from a blue flame waste oil heater are generally considered lower than those from a wood fire. Blue flames indicate complete combustion, meaning the fuel is burned more efficiently, resulting in fewer pollutants.

Contrary to what you might think, burning waste oil is an environmentally friendly recycling solution. For starters, onsite storage reduces the risk of spills and contamination that might occur during transportation.

Let’s talk

Welcome to Drip fed waste oil heating.co.nz

We build blue flame waste oil heaters to your order, whether your heating just a workshop or a swimming pool.

The pool heaters produce continuous hot water at 68c depending on the flow.

The workshop heaters will operate around the 500c - 550c.

They burn with a blue flame and clean without any smoke all on waste oil from car, truck or tractor oil change service.

So the heat produce is free because these people give the oil away free, therefore free heating.

Some customers are heating 5 radiators running them for 6 days and nights stopping the fire to clean than relighting them, this process                     can be reduced by burning hydraulic oil as this oil doesn't leave any ash after burning so heating can continue.

Farmer drying grain burning $600.00 in gas a day why when these will do the same but for free.

This type of heating can also be achieved in a log fire so you no long require firewood, now that would be a saving let alone the work         it takes to get the wood to the fire.

To fit the log fire burner into the log fire box I've cut a 40mm hole which could be round to allow access for the airflow to enter. And the other hole is a 13mm hole for the oil flow in the side or back. Very easy to do and it you ever wanted to burn wood a cover plate is provided to close the hole, not that you will ever go back to wood when your've got free heating.

The controller comes preset at 0.4 seconds of oil pump to 9 seconds delay time. This is easy changed if need be. Full instructions will be forwarded on how to run the controller.

This is the radiator pool heater. these can have up to 4 wetbacks fitted.

Heater take 3 weeks to build once you have ordered one.

This is the controller we use for the log fire. The power supply also runs the copper coiler machine.

All the heaters come with a waste oil controller. However If you wish to purchase the controller to run your waste oil heater these are
$270.00nzd Plus freight $60.00nzd
petty much worldwide.

How these operate is they control you oil flow into your heater, stopping the over heating most waste oil or gravity fed heaters fine themselves in.
This times the delivery of oil at say, 1 second pump to 6 second delay time, this controls the heater and keeps it at a set temperature.
And a thermostat to cut out should the fire go out due to water. This is preset to 30c so if the fire drops in temp to 30c the thermostat will turn the oil off however the blower will continue blowing so there is no smoke.

This wetback fed the spa pool which when at 39x could be turned over to heat the pool too with a Y fitting & the radiators in the house. It's possible to fit 4 wetbacks in this heater @ $370.00 each. We use sil-foss which a silver type of weld for the copper pipes. These have to be red hot to take the sil-foss before it melts.

This coil is made to go over a 150mm flue get to capture that wasted heat into hot water. Same price as above coil.

We also build the 1/2 the 45kg heater for the larger garage or small business.

These sell for $890.00, comes with the controller and blower all you need is the waste oil.

These can still have water heating installed into therefore spa pools etc at an extra cost $250.00

It's a plug and play setup. A great little heater that packs a punch.

Please be aware that it's the luck of the draw whether you receive the top of the bottle or the bottom of the 45kg gas cylinder.

Oil storage to prepare for burning.

We use a 44 gallon drum for all our oil to enter before burning takes place, so it can settle out the rubbish that you get with oil, eg water and solid bits.

The drum has been turned upside down, and in the small hole a tap fitted.

The large hole is just bunged off.

Drill a 50m hole cut in the was the bottom for the oil to enter.

We have added legs to this drum but you could use blocks to raise it up to get access to the tap.

Ok now we can remove the rubbish and the water every 6 months through the tap.

The suckon to the pump only enters the top but only 3/4 of the way down, missing all the rubbish that will block pumps and filters all day long.

We have used the top of a gas cylinder as the funnel, heavy enough not to move when pouring in oil and high enough to reduce spills. The better way is to pump the oil into the drum using a drum pump.

This was one of the first heaters we built to heat our home using hot water or radiators, but gravity feed so was a bit unreliable at best the times. But back then when everyone else was heating the ground we were heating a home. This was without power and no blower.
Another one we made way back in the early days, just a heater at first the we soon introduced water heating to this too.
